Studiocanal has launched Studiocanal Classics, a worldwide label for catalogue releases.
The label will conduct theatrical releases on select films from Studiocanal’s library of over 18,000 titles; with home entertainment releases on other films.
Theatrical releases will include a 35th-anniversary re-release of Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 2D, 3D, 4DX and D-Box formats worldwide, from August 27; a 20th-anniversary 4K restoration of Pan’s Labyrinth; and a retrospective programme for French filmmaker Jacques Tati.
Studiocanal will handle distribution in its territories of UK-Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Benelux, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand, working with partners in Scandinavia and South Africa and selling to other international territories.
Worldwide home entertainment releases from Studiocanal Classics include a directors’ cut of the Coen brothers’ directorial debut Blood Simple, and their 2013 feature Inside Llewyn Davis; and Richard Attenborough’s Chaplin starring Robert Downey Jr.
Studiocanal has invested almost €25m ($29.1m) in 4K restorations of almost 1,000 feature films in the past seven years.
The Classics label will unveil its 2027 theatrical and home entertainment slate soon, including a collection of films by the late David Lynch.
