Studiocanal has signed a development partnership with Sarah Brocklehurst’s UK production company Brock Media.
Studiocanal has taken a minority stake in the company and will support Brock Media’s slate, which includes 18 TV series as well as film projects. Sophie Mitchell, head of TV development for Brock Media, will work with M-K Kennedy, managing director of television for Studiocanal, in the partnership.
“We greatly admire Sarah’s passion for producing bold and often female-driven stories such as The Outrun which feel important and inspiring in addition to taking an innovative approach to creating IP,” said a statement from Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal, chief content officer and deputy CEO of Canal+ and Kennedy.
“We now look forward to fully supporting Sarah in growing the Brock Media slate furthering her ambition to produce world-class films and TV series for UK and international audiences.”
Brocklehurst – a 2014 Screen Star of Tomorrow – founded Brock Media in 2022. The company produced Nora Fingsheidt’s feature adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s memoir The Outrun starring Saoirse Ronan and Paapa Essiedu. The Outrun played Sundance, Berlin, Edinburgh and Telluride film festivals last year; was nominated for nine Bifas and two Baftas; and was distributed in multiple territories by Studiocanal, topping £2m at the UK-Ireland box office.
“Having worked together on The Outrun, I know that Studiocanal are the perfect partner for Brock Media as we embark on the next chapter,” said Brocklehurst. “We share cultural alignment, passion for cinema and commitment to producing great stories for international audiences. I’m looking forward to working with Anna Marsh, M-K Kennedy and their brilliant teams to generate many more successes across film and series in the years to come.”
