Bob Simonds’ STX Entertainment has officialy sealed the deal on its 18-film co-financing and distribution agreement with the private Chinese company.

Huayi shareholders approved the pact at a meeting in Beijing, resulting in one of the first significant investments in a Hollywood slate by a Chinese player.

STX launched in 2014 and has built up a formidable executive suite that includes former Universal head Adam Fogelson and marketing guru Oren Aviv.

In recent years Huayi has flirted with Hollywood investments and circled Legendary Entertainment and Studio 8, however neither courtship amounted to anything.

A Manatt, Phelps & Phillips team led by partner Lindsay Conner negotiated the 18-title co-financing and distribution agreement.

In addition to Conner, the Manatt team included counsel Sophia K Yen and associate Kiley Wong.
