EXCLUSIVE: UK-based sales outfit Film Seekers has acquired worldwide rights to Alex Kahuam’s The Remedy, which it will launch at next month’s American Film Market (AFM, November 11-16).
The film recently wrapped post-production, with a first still from the film released here. Film Seekers will debut a first trailer to buyers at the market in Santa Monica.
The Remedy follows Jason, a troubled young man who makes a desperate attempt to save his mother but inadvertently unleashes a monstrous supernatural entity in the process.
Timothy Granaderos, from Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, leads the cast, alongside London Thor, frequent Guillermo del Toro collaborator Doug Jones, Jenny O’Hara and Chris Mulkey.
The film is produced by Kahuam for Kahuam Films, and writer Daniel Kuhlman of Breakwall Pictures; and is looking for a festival premiere in Q1 of 2026.
It was presented in the Fantastic Pavilion’s Genre Showcase at the Marche du Film in Cannes this year. ”The Fantastic Pavilion was key to connect with Film Seekers and it was the beginning of our conversation,” said Kahuam. ”I can’t wait for genre buyers to experience The Remedy and for an exciting film festival journey in 2026”.
Ethan Cross, sales and acquisitions executive at Film Seekers, described the film as “a gripping, dark and twisted horror with both emotional stakes and strong commercial appeal. Alex is certainly an exciting director to watch out for in the genre space.”
Kahuam has previously directed features including 2021 horror Forgiveness and 2023 crime comedy Failure!
