EXCLUSIVE: Producer and sales executive Aleksandar Govedarica has launched Symbioz Films to handle around 10 fiction and documentary projects a year.
First on its slate is Susanne Kovács’s feature documentary Techplomacy, about Anne Marie Engtoft Meldgaard, Denmark’s ‘tech ambassador’. The film had its world premiere earlier in the spring at CPH: DOX. Symbioz is handling world rights excluding Denmark.
Govedarica is the co-founder and former managing director of the Toronto-based world sales and production company Syndicado Film Sales, which last year rebranded as Verità Films and which specialised primarily in documentaries.
“With Symbioz Films, the vision is to expand equally into both documentary and fiction, supporting a diverse range of voices and projects,” said Govedarica.
Symbioz Films is also involved as producer on Petroleo, the fiction feature debut by Alvaro Pulpeiro. The film is produced by Xavi Font, whose credits include Sirat. The title was formerly on Syndicado’s sales slate but the rights have now reverted to the producer.
