Finance, production and sales company EST Studios has hired veteran distribution and production executive Tenten Wei as head of sales and distribution as the team kicks off Cannes sales on Sundance selection Every Day In Kaimuki.

Based in Los Angeles for the Asian content specialist, Wei will report to head of film and TV Juefang Zhang. Prior to joining the company she was director of acquisitions and distribution at Starlight Media and worked on Midway, Malignant and Umma.

Before Starlight she worked at Instrum International as head of Asia sales. Wei has also worked as an advisor at Hong Kong-based Tiger Pictures, where she consulted on titles such as Hi, Mom and I Am What I Am. She began her career in 2012 at Jilin Television in China.

EST Studios was established recently by Jaeson Ma and Eric Tu and aims to finance, produce and sell 15 Asian film and TV projects annually for the global market.

Alika Tengan’s Every Day In Kaimuki centres on a young man who is prepared to leave behind everything he’s ever known and loved and find meaning outside Kaimuki, the small Hawaiian town where he grew up.

“EST is quickly expanding and adapting to new business opportunities so I’m really excited to have Tenten on board,” said Ma. “She has strong industry experience and I believe in the success she can bring to EST.”

Recent EST sales titles include sci-fi feature Maika, which also premiered at Sundance this year. The company is producing K-Pops!, and the documentary Hidden Letters which will receive its world premiere at Tribeca Festival.
