Days before Lionsgate International is due to commence sales at the AFM on John Rambo, the Russo brothers’ AGBO has joined the action origins story as producer alongside Lionsgate and Millennium Media.

Sisu franchise director Jalmari Helander will helm the project from a screenplay by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Noah Centineo is in final negotiations to star as the iconic Rambo, who was immortalised by Sylvester Stallone in 1982’s First Blood and several sequels.

John Rambo takes place during the Vietnam War and production is expected to begin in early 2026 in Thailand. Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco will produce for AGBO, alongside Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, and Jonathan Yunger for Millennium Media. Anthony and Joe Russo will serve as executive producers. Lionsgate holds worldwide rights.

AGBO’s credits include the Netflix action franchise Extraction, as well as the streamer’s The Gray Man, and A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Recent productions include The Bluff starring Priyanka Chopra-Jonas and Karl Urban for Amazon MGM and The Whisper Man with Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan for Netflix. The company is also producing Marvel Studios tentpoles Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will open in 2026 and 2027, respectively, and are directed by the Russo Brothers.
