EXCLUSIVE: Altitude has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Voice Of Hind Rajab.
France’s The Party Film Sales handles sales on the title.
The Voice Of Hind Rajab launched in Competition at Venice Film Festival earlier in September, winning the Grand Jury Prize.
Based on real events from January 2024, Ben Hania’s docudrama follows the response of Palestinian Red Crescent volunteers to the emergency calls of five-year-old Hind Rajab, a Palestinian girl who was killed by the Israel Defence Forces during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip.
The film drew emotional reactions at both its press screening, conference and premiere in Venice. It is Tunisia’s entry to the best international feature Oscar category.
The Voice Of Hind Rajab has subsequently screened at Toronto, Busan and San Sebastian film festivals, and has upcoming screenings at Zurich, BFI London Film Festival and Chicago. It will also open the inaugural Doha Film Festival in November.
Producers are Jim Wilson, Odessa Rae and Nadim Cheikhrouha. Shortly before its Venice debut, the film was boarded by several high-profile executive producers, including Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Alfonso Cuaron and Jonathan Glazer.
It is Ben Hania’s seventh feature film. Among her previous titles, The Man Who Sold His Skin was nominated for best international feature at the 2021 Oscars, while Four Daughters was nominated for best documentary feature in 2024.
