Tobin Bell will reprise his signature role as John Kramer in the upcoming next instalment in the Saw horror franchise, which Lionsgate International will bring to the AFM.
Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures are preparing for a production start this month ahead of an October 27 2023 release.
As previously announced franchise stalwart Kevin Greutert, who directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter and edited the first five Saw films and Jigsaw, is directing the project.
Bell’s character Jigsaw was a cancer survivor who trapped people in horrifying predicaments to test their will to live. He has appeared mostly in flashbacks in the last few instalments after he died at the end of Saw III.
The franchise has earned more than $1bn worldwide including last year’s Spiral and more than $535m internationally.
Saw franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said, “What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film.”
