BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival (March 18-29) will open with the world premiere of US filmmaker Jennifer Kroot’s documentary Hunky Jesus.
The doc tells the story of San Francisco’s annual Easter tradition Hunky Jesus. The pageant is hosted by drag and activist group the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and showcases a series of burlesque and drag performances as well as themed contests that are a mix of satire, celebration, and social commentary, promoting LGBTQ+ visibility, inclusivity, and religious parody.
US producers are Kroot, Brian Benson, Gerry Kim and Robert Holgate.
BFI Flare is the UK’s largest queer film event, with the full lineup of the 40th edition to be unveiled on February 17.
