Jason Elliott from the UK’s National Film and Television School is among 16 winners of the 53rd Student Academy Awards who will be honoured for the first time at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 14.

Elliott’s I Want To Live is one of the winners in the documentary section. The Student Academy Awards competition received 2,972 entries from 894 colleges and universities worldwide.

Winners will collect the awards at TIFF Lightbox in Downtown Toronto and will received gold, silver and bronze placements in each of the four categories, announced at the ceremony. Winners will go through a weekend of education programming, networking opportunities and access to Academy members to support their career advancement.

All Student Academy Award-winning films will be eligible to compete for the 99th Oscars in the animated short film, live action short film or dDocumentary short film category. Past Student Academy Award winners have gone on to receive 70 Oscar nominations and have won or shared 15 awards.
