‘George Michael: The Faith Tour’

Universal Pictures Content Group has acquired international distribution rights to George Michael: The Faith Tour, with Bleecker Street’s event cinema division Crosswalk taking rights for North America.

The concert film will receive a global theatrical release later this year, with Bleecker partnering with Imax on early access screenings in the US.

The film is directed by longtime Michael collaborators Andy Morahan – who directed music videos for ‘Last Christmas’, ‘Faith’ and ‘Careless Whisper’ – and David Austin – who directed documentaries George Michael at the Palais Garnier, Paris and George Michael: Freedom Uncut.

The film features footage from two nights of Michael’s performance at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy on his Faith tour in 1988. It will open with Finding Faith, an original short film by Mary McCartney, daughter of Paul and Linda McCartney.

“George at the height of the Faith tour was simply electrifying — there’s a magnetic force of charisma and connection with the audience that feels just as powerful today as it did then,” said Helen Parker, EVP at Universal Pictures Content Group.

“Through beautifully restored archival footage and intimate, never-before-heard interviews, audiences will be given a front-row seat to a beloved artist at the peak of his impact,” said Bleecker Street CEO Kent Sanderson.
