Mad Max: Fury Road earned best film and best director at the 5th AACTA (Australia Academy Cinema Television Arts) International Awards in Hollywood this week. Carol earned best lead actress for Cate Blanchett and best supporting actress for Rooney Mara. Leonardo DiCaprio was named best actor for The Revenant, while Mark Rylance earned supporting actor honours for Bridge Of Spies.
- Margaret Sixel won the American Cinema Editors’ best edited feature film (dramatic) award for Mad Max: Fury Road at the 66th annual ACE Eddie Awards on January 29. Hank Corwin won best feature (comedy) for The Big Short, Kevin Bolting best animation for Inside Out and Chris King best documentary for Amy.
- Colombian production Los Nadien will open the Cartagena International Film Festival. Juan Sebastián Mesa’s story about the build-up to a trip received a feature film post-production grant from Colombia’s Film Development Fund. The festival runs from March 2-7.
- Sophie Cassidy has been promoted to svp of production and acquisitions at Open Road Films. Cassidy previously served as vp of production and acquisitions and was part of the team that acquired the February 26 US releaseTriple 9 as well as the first in-house production Sleepless Night.
