Director won the Camera d’Or award at Cannes for his feature debut Ilo Ilo, which represents Singapore in the foreign language Oscar race.

Ilo Ilo is a family drama that plays out against the backdrop of the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

Chen’s short film, Ah Ma (Grandma) was nominated for the Palme d’Or for short film at the 60th Cannes Film Festival and earned a special mention.

His 2008 short Haze screened in competition at the 58th Berlinale.

Chen completed his masters in film directing in 2010 at the UK’s National Film And Television School with the support of a scholarship from the Media Development Authority Of Singapore.

Chen divides his time between London and Singapore and resides in the UK where he continues to be represented by United Agents.
