EXCLUSIVE: Vertigo Releasing has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw’s documentary Burgundy.
The distributor is scheduling a theatrical release for spring 2027, having acquired the film from Charades, which handles international sales.
Burgundy follows the eccentric community in France’s historic Cote d’Or region whose lives revolve around the high-stakes culture and pleasures of Grand Cru viticulture – the practice of cultivating, growing and harvesting grapes.
The film features winemaking figures including winemaker Bertrand Devilliard, his grandson Melchior who will inherit the family legacy, aspiring winemaker Enzo Ferraoroli, and apprentice sommelier Celeste Kalis
Burgundy debuted as a Venice Open – Out of Competition title on the Lido last month, before playing Telluride, San Sebastian and Zurich film festivals.
It is produced by Dweck, Kershaw, and Cameron O’Reilly of US firm Beautiful Stories, alongside Greece’s Faliro House Productions and the US’s Artemis Rising Foundation.
Taylor Haldane, Vertigo Releasing’s head of UK acquisitions and TV sales, described it as “a charming and joyful film that wine lovers and film lovers will hugely enjoy.”
Dweck and Kershaw previously directed documentaries including Sundance 2020 title The Truffle Hunters and Sundance 2024’s Gaucho Gaucho.
