Act One

EXCLUSIVE: Visit Films has unveiled its Cannes sales slate of recently-completed films including upcoming Tribeca world premieres Act One and She Keeps Me Young, Sundance documentaries The History Of Concrete and The Best Summer, and SXSW pair Their Town and Perfect.

Act One, directed by Sophia Takal (Always Shine, Black Christmas) will screen for buyers prior to Tribeca Festival and is a dramatic thriller centred on a vulnerable aspiring young actress who falls under the spell of an acting coach who draws her into a web of control and obsession. Ella Beatty from If I Had Legs I’d Kick You stars alongside Ari Graynor, and Nate Mann.

She Keeps Me Young will also get a private buyer screening ahead of its debut in New York. Doron Max Hagay directed the comedy follows Michelle, who is floating through life until a surprising connection with a high school student challenges her relationship with her overbearing best friend. The cast features Patti Harrison, Kate Berlant, John Early, Blair Beeken, Katy Fullan, and Shay Rudolph.

John Wilson’s documentary The History Of Concrete premiered in the final Park City edition of Sundance Film Festival and follows Wilson as he attends a workshop on writing Hallmark films and tries to apply the same formula to selling his documentary. Josh Safdie is among the executive producers and Magnolia Pictures will distribute in North America.

Tamra Davis’s Sundance selection The Best Summer will screen in the Cannes market following its SXSW premiere and used immersive POV camera footage to capture performances, interviews, and backstage moments with Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Pavement, and Beck, among others.

Katie Aselton’s SXSW pick Their Town centres on a high school student who gets to know the school outcast after he is cast opposite her in the play after her boyfriend drops out. Ora Duplass stars with Chosen Jacobs, Will Parker, Kim Shaw, Effery Self, Daveed Diggs.

SXSW selection Perfect directed by Millicent Hailes will screen in the Cannes market and follows a heartbroken drifter drawn to a lakeside haven by a pregnant woman as she finds refuge with a group of eccentric misfits. Julia Fox from Uncut Gems stars with Ashley Moore, Micaela Wittman, Lío Mehiel, Ryder McLaughlin, Kate Moennig, and Creed Bratton. 

Visit Films will continue sales on Rachael J. Morrison’s SXSW Documentary Joybubbles, Berlin entry Mouse from Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson, Berlinale dark comedy Women As Lovers from Koxi, Rotterdam selection The Gymnast from Charlotte Glynn, and James N Kienitz Wilkins’s Rotterdam dark comedy The Misconceived.
