Welsh development agency Ffilm Cymru has unveiled the 11 participants in its inaugural Future Producers programme, including co-producer of Galway Film Fleadh audience award winner Learning To Breathe Under Water Nan Davies and associate producer of Toronto’s Stuffed, Mahesh Madhu Naidu.
Davies of Cardiff-based One Wave Films is also a co-producer on Sheffield Doc Fest feature documentary Still Pushing Pineapples. She is currently producing feature documentary The Last Picture Shop and developing coming-of-age drama Grown Girl.
Madhu Naidu is currently developing feature This Is Not the Family I Ordered.
They are joined by Nora Ostler Spiteri, who has worked extensively on TV drama for S4C and is producing her first feature film, Angharad Elen’s adaptation of Alys Conran’s novel Pijin, directed by Euros Lyn, plus former Industry executive producer and founder of 5 Acts Films, David P Davis.
The programme will provide bespoke training, coaching and networking opportunities over the course of a week in Cardiff from October 26, running parallel to the EAVE Producers Workshop, and funded by Creative Wales, Arts Council of Wales, the BFI UK Global Screen Fund and ScreenSkills.
“I know how valuable it is to step back from the day-to-day demands of development and production and focus on the bigger picture: sharpening your vision, stress-testing scripts, building networks and partnerships and understanding how to navigate other countries financial asks, co-production deals and the international market,” said Catryn Ramasut, director of arts at Arts Council of Wales and an EAVE graduate.
“Bringing that level of access and expertise to Wales is an investment not only in these producers and their companies, but in the strength, scale and long-term sustainability of Welsh cinema.”
