‘I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning’

A £6m UK film and TV production fund has launched in the West Midlands, supporting projects that can demonstrate strong public value and deliver significant economic, employment and sector development benefits for the West Midlands.

The West Midlands Content Production Fund will be administered by Create Central, the region’s creative industries cluster body, and will provide awards of between £100,000 and £600,000 towards eligible production and post-production costs, backed by the West Midlands Combined Authority.

It will support scripted and unscripted television, feature films, documentaries and animation.

Funding may be provided through either recoupable or non-recoupable grants, with the funding mechanism determined on a project-by-project basis.

The fund is currently at an expression of interest stage, with the full application process expected to open in early 2027.

Recent projects to shoot in the West Midlands include Clio Barnard’s I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, Netflix’s latest Peaky Blinders series and upcoming TV drama The Cadburys.

The West Midlands Combined Authority is one of six UK mayoral strategic authorities with strength in the creative industries to be awarded £25m each, as of June, to bolster local creative industries from 2026-29. Film and TV production funds have also launched in Manchester, at £10.5m, and the West of England, with £4.5m.
