Damián Szifron has begun production in Ramos Mejía, Buenos Aires province, on the comedy drama El Sobrino, only his second feature since the 2014 Oscar-nominated Wild Tales.
Leonardo Sbaraglia and Rita Cortese star in the story about an internationally-renowned pianist whose world gets turned upside down when he discovers his nine-year-old nephew’s musical gifts may surpass his own. Set in the world of classic music, the feature sends its protagonists on a pilgrimage through Buenos Aires, Hamburg, London, and New York.
Luisana Lopilato, Valeria Lois, and newcomer Luan Adler Fuks round out the cast, which includes special appearances by Vincent Macaigne and Franco Nero.
Szifron wrote the screenplay and K&S Films is producing the feature. Individual producers are Hugo Sigman, Matías Mosteirin, and Leticia Cristi.
After the success of Wild Tales, Szifron directed the 2023 serial killer thriller To Catch A Killer starring Shailene Woodley and Ben Mendelsohn.
Prior to the pandemic, he had been attached to direct Warner Bros’ The Six Billion Dollar Man only to exit the project in 2018 over creative differences.
