Swiss and UK-based financing, production and sales company Omega Entertainment has acquired international rights from Montage Films to the Anna Nicole Smith biopic Anna Nicole.

Filming is underway in Los Angeles with US singer Willa Ford starring as the late model and TV personality who died last February from an accidental drug overdose in Florida. Los Angeles-based Montage Films and Hollywood television company Nasser Entertainment are financing the project and Nasser is serving as producer.

This is the first feature to go into production for Montage, which was founded earlier this year by former Franchise Pictures chief executive officer Elie Samaha. The company has a one-year first-look deal with Omega.

'We are delighted to be able to handle such a timely film,' Omega founder Markus Barmettler said. 'Anna Nicole will be ready for delivery to the international marketplace in July of this year.'

Omega, whose ranks swelled recently with the arrival of former Lakeshore International president Peter Rogers as president, is also selling Deepa Mehta's eco-drama Luna and Joel Schumacher's romance 1:30 Train.
