Parzania, Rahul Dholakia's account of the 2002 Gujarat riots, has been confirmed to open the India Now exhibition presented by The Museum of Modern Art at New York's Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters on Apr 22.

The English-language film recounts a family's search for their missing child during a pogrom organised by radical Hindus against Muslims that resulted in more than 1,100 deaths.

Parzania won India's National Award in January for best director and best actress for Sarika. Naseeruddin Shah and Corin Nemec also star.

The Serene Picture Classics production has been in release in India for seven weeks and has been banned from theatres in Gujurat by the regional authorities.
