Amanda Peet is in final negotiations to sign on to The MartianChild for New LineCinema. The film is an adaptation of a short story by sci-fi writer DavidGerrold that is due to begin shooting in Canada next month.

Studio sources confirmed that Joan Cusack boarded the project lastweek, joining her brother John, who will play a grieving sci-fi writer whoadopts a peculiar six-year-old boy who wants to be his son.

Menno Meyjes, who directed John Cusack in the 2000 Hitler drama Max, will direct the picture based on ascreenplay by Jonathan Tolins and Seth Bass.

David Kirschner,Corey Sienega and Ed Albert are serving as producers, while New Line productionchief Toby Emmerich and colleague Mark Kaufman will oversee for the studio.
