US horror hit The Grudge opened top in the UK on $4.1m (£2.2m) including previews of$736,000 (£396,000) at the weekend, according to estimates released bydistributor UIP.

By way of comparison the Dawn Of The Dead remake opened in March on $3m ($1.6m) at339 sites, and The Ringopened in 2003 on $3m ($1.7m) at 296.\

Paid previews for Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason also lit up the UK box office onSaturday (6), grossing $2.3m (£1.3m) through UIP at 441 locations for 33%market share.

More Bridget Jones paid previews were scheduled for Sunday at the same number oflocations, however results were unavailable at time of writing.

By way of comparison, paid previews for Bridget Jones's Diary went out on the Wednesday and Thursdaybefore opening in April 2001 and took a total of $1.8m from 360 locations overtwo days.

The sequel opens proper in the UK, Australia, Croatia, Hungary,Netherlands, Poland and Thailand next weekend.

German smash Seven Dwarfs followed up on its record-breaking debut last weekend witha strong second weekend hold at number one in Germany, adding another $10mafter a mere 12% drop for a stunning $25.7m running total.

The picture added $1m and remained top in its second weekend inAustria for a $3.1m cumulative total. Overall Seven Dwarfs added $11.4m at the weekend for a $30mtotal after 11 days in 885 locations in three countries.

Spy thriller The Bourne Supremacy passed the $92.4m final total of TheBourne Identity, adding$2m for $93.4m with 14 territories still to open including Japan on Feb 5. Itadded $1.1m on 522 screens in Germany for $7.1m after three weekends

Wimbledon scored no major openings this weekend.It has amassed $19.6m from 13 territories to date.
