It's all about Iron Man this weekend as Paramount Pictures International (PPI) kicks off the 2008 summer blockbuster season with a huge day-and-date rollout.

Paramount will release the Marvel Studios film in North America on May 2 and the top-line cast of Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges allied to the inbuilt fanbase and rave reviews means Iron Man is expected to dominate everywhere.

In the last few weeks Fox International's Horton Hears A Who!, Warner Bros Pictures International's 10,000 BC, Sony Pictures Releasing International's 21 and most recently Universal's Forgetting Sarah Marshall have taken advantage of relatively light competition, but everything changes this weekend.

Iron Man launched in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Mexico, Singapore and Switzerland, among many others, on April 30.

May 1 highlights include Australia, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden and Taiwan, while the UK is the big one on May 2.

Warner Bros Pictures International's 10,000 BC has amassed $164.5m, The Golden Compass stands at $292.5m and Horton Hears A Who! has grossed $127.1m.
