The 32nd Starz Denver Film Festival (SDFF32) will open o November 12 with a gala screening of Lee Daniels’ acclaimed drama Precious: Based On The Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire.

Precious is the first film to win both the Sundance and Toronto audience awards and also claimed the grand jury prize at Sundance.

Gabourey Sidibe plays a pregnant, illiterate 16-year-old Harlem teenager with a hellish life who sees a glimmer of hope when she is invited to attend an alternative school.

“This is an incredibly well-crafted film with local roots and provides yet another strong affirmation of the important role our city and state continue to play in the international film industry,’ festival director Britta Erickson said.

The cast includes Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Paula Patton and Lenny Kravitz.
