Don McKellar will direct the $12.7m project from a screenplay by Michael Dowse and Ken Scott who wrote the original French film, Le Grande Seduction. Alliance Films holds Canadian rights and Voltage Pictures is the international sales agent.

Production is scheduled to kick off on Monday (Jul 30) in St John’s Newfoundland, Canada, and various outport communities around Trinity Bay, Red Cliff, New Bonaventure and Port Rexton. Gorden Pinsent, Mary Walsh, Cathy Jones and Liane Balaban are also set to star.

The Grand Seduction follows the efforts of a harbour town to entice a doctor to set up a local practice, thus qualifying the locale for a contract that will save it from financial ruin.

Original producer Roger Frappier reprises his role and will be joined by Barbara Doran. Jeff Sackmann, Mark Slone and Joe Iacono are the executive producers

The Grand Seduction is financed by Telefilm Canada, Sodec, The Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation, Max Films, Vision Globale and Morag Loves Company.
