Bichir will make his feature writing and directorial debut on the story of a circus-born dreamer who embarks on a search for his true love.

Alex Garcia and Lucas Akoskin will produce Refugio through their Santa Monica and Mexico-based BN Films. Bruno Bichir of Mexico’s Escarabajo Productions will co-produce. 

Principal Photography is set to begin this autumn in the US and Mexico. 

Bichir will next be seen in Fox’s The Heat, FX’s The Bridge and the Open Road release Machete Kills.

He is represented by CAA, Evolution and Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown Inc.

Garcia’s new sales and distribution company Latam Distribution will represent US and Latin American rights and the producers are out to international sales agents.
