FilmNation is fast-tracking the international thriller Eye In The Sky and has set Oliver Hirschbiegel to direct after acquiring rights from BBC Films in cooperation with BBC TV.

The German will reunite with his Five Minutes Of Heaven screenwriter Guy Hibbert on the story about a drone missile drop in East Africa that impacts on a group of characters around the world.

FilmNation aims to start pre-production on the project later this year after evp of production Karen Lunder brought it in. Lunder will produce with president of production Aaron Ryder.

Stephen Wright, who works with the BBC where the project was initially developed, will also produce.  Alison Cohen negotiated the rights deal for FilmNation with Zoe Brown for the BBC.

“As a company we have been searching for a project to do with Oliver for some time,” Ryder said. “He’s a filmmaker I’ve been pursuing for years and I’m incredibly excited that Guy’s script is going to be that project. It’s one of the best scripts I’ve read in a long time.”

“This is one of those rare projects that you can’t stop thinking about long after the last page has been turned,” Lunder said. “Guy’s script is absolutely riveting and unique and we couldn’t have a better team to make this film.”
