The studio has acquired worldwide rights to Nick Hornby’s adaptation of Wild with Reese Witherspoon set to star and produce.

Cheryl Strayed’s New York Times bestseller will commence production in late autumn once a director is in place.

Witherspoon and her Pacific Standard partner Bruna Papandrea will produce alongside River Road founder Bill Pohlad.

Wild centres on a seemingly hopeless woman who abandons years of reckless behavior to embark on a 1,000-mile solo trek along the perilous Pacific Crest Trail.

Fox Searchlight Pictures president of production Claudia Lewis and svp of production David Greenbaum will oversee for the studio.

Fox Searchlight svp of business affairs Megan O’Brien brokered the deal with CAA and Management 360 along with Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller on behalf of Reese Witherspoon and Steve Hutensky on behalf of Bruna Papandrea.

Pacific Standard’s production slate includes Gone Girl and Pennyroyal’s Boot Camp at Summit/Lionsgate. The development slate includes Who Invited Her at Dreamworks and The Engagements at Fox 2000.

River Road recently produced Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave, the likely awards season contender that Fox Searchlight will release on Oct 18. The company is in production on the Brian Wilson story Love & Mercy. John Cusack, Paul Dano, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti star and Pohlad directs.
