GK Films is to revive the Tomb Raider property on-screen after acquiring rights from Square Enix.

Graham King and business partner Tim Headington are targeting a 2013 launch for the adventure property based on the Lara Croft video game character made famous on film by Angelina Jolie.

Square Enix subsidiary Crystal Dynamics released a new origins story game last December after the original game was published in 1996 by Eidos of London.

“We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the Tomb Raider phenomenon,” King said.

Paramount made two films based on the property and generated $432m worldwide.
