The Exclusive Media subsidiary will develop and produce with Imagination Design Works (IDW) and Nine/8 Entertainment.

The deal marks the first time the administrators of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, have approved of a feature based on the venue’s storied history.

According to folklore Winchester Rifle heiress Sarah Winchester embarked on a 38-year construction project to appease and house the spirits of the gun’s victims, believing she would attain immortality as long as she kept on building.

Each October IDW organises an annual tour of the California Historical Landmark’s sprawling interior.

Exclusive Media president of worldwide production and acquisitions Tobin Armbrust and director of development and production Shira Rockowitz will oversee production alongside producers Brett Tomberlin and Antonia Lianos of Imagination Design Works and Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment.

“The Winchester House has a rich and compelling history,” Armbrust said. “The story behind how it was built has attracted a great deal of attention over the years and we are excited to bring that mythology to film.”

“We are extremely excited to be partnering with Exclusive Media to bring the story of the Winchester Mystery House to a global audience,” IDW president Brett Tomberlin said.

“For many years, the mystique and history of this unique venue, and its owner Sarah Winchester, could be experienced only by those visiting the site. Now, with a film shot in and around the House, Sarah’s spirit will be brought back to life, and the audience will see first-hand this stunning and bizarre house.”
