K5 International has taken on international rights to Vehicle 19, which is set to star Paul Walker – who is hot off the huge international success of Fast Five.

Walker will star in the new action thriller and also executive produce.

South Africa’s Mukunda Michael Dewil will direct, with the shoot starting in August.

The script recently appeared on the influential Black List. Walker plays a traveller who picks up the wrong rental car (with a woman in the trunk) and he becomes a target for a corrupt police force.

Peter Safran (Buried) and Ryan Haidarian (formerly of the NFVF) will produce.

K5 – which is based in Munich, London and Los Angeles — will start pre-sales in Cannes. UTA’s Rena Ronson represents North American rights.

K5’s deal came together from its own funding plus finance from Kevin Frakes’ PalmStar Media Captial and Los Angeles-based EFish Entertainment.

K5‘s Daniel Baur, who negotiated the deal with Safran and Haidarian, said: “This is a fantastic white-knuckle ride of a movie, starring one of the hottest box office stars around and produced by a great team in Peter and Ryan.”

Oliver Simon, founding partner of K5 added, “We are moving into more and more commercial movies whilst retaining the passion that we’ll always have for distinctive projects.  Vehicle 19 ticks all the boxes.”

Producer Peter Safran said: “I’m very excited to be in business with K5 on this picture and even more so to be working with Paul Walker, Ryan and the fantastic new talent, Mukunda Dewil.”
