The New York Times bestseller is based on a true wartime story about the healing powers of a deep bond between a man and a dog.

Screenwriter Patrick Sheane Duncan will adapt from the book by former Army Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan. Duncan is best known for Courage Under Fire and Mr Holland’s Opus.

“Captain Montalvan’s story is incredibly inspiring and we feel very privileged to bring it to the big screen with the help of such a talented screenwriter as Patrick Sheane Duncan,” Waterman Entertainment evp Tucker Waterman said.

“Service dogs have played a crucial role in the rehabilitation of many American soldiers, and this film will pay tribute to them as well as the soldiers who have sacrificed so much for our country.”

Production is scheduled to begin in summer 2012.
