Sergei Loznitsa is now moving into post-production on his new film In The Fog.
The film recently did an additional four days in early January of winter shooting in Latvia.
In The Fog is his second feature, after Cannes 2010 selection My Joy.
Loznitsa said in a statement: “I would like to thank my colleagues, my team of exceptionally talented and dedicated people, whose professional brilliance enabled me to film a complex historical picture in 28 shooting days. There were Latvians, Lithuanians, Germans, Russians, Belorussians, Poles and Romanians in my crew; we had nine languages spoken on the set. All of us were united by one common goal and I am sure that the creative harmony which we achieved on the set will be reflected on the screen.”
The cast is led by Vlad Ivanov, Boris Kamorzin, Mikhail Evlanov, Dmitry Bykovskiy, Nadezhda Markina and Julia Peresild.
The crew includes DoP Oleg Mutu (4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days).
The film, adapted from the novel by Vassily Bykov, is set in the German-occupied Western frontiers of the USSR in 1942, when a railway worker is wrongly accused of being a collaborator.
The producers are MA.JA.DE Fiction (Germany), Rija Films (Latvia), Lemming Film (The Netherlands), GP Film Company (Russia), with support from ZDF/ARTE, EURIMAGES and Belarusfilm.
World sales are handled by The Match Factory and the film is expected to be ready for a spring 2012 launch.
