Ivana MacKinnon is leaving UK production outfit Cloud Eight Films to go out on her own as an independent producer.

Her first project will be Cheerleaders 3D, to be directed by Scouting Book For Boys director Tom Harper. The teen dance movie, which came second on the UK’s annual Brit List of the hottest projects doing the rounds in 2010, has been written by Ben Schiffer, whose credits include UK TV drama Skins.

MacKinnon has worked as head of creative affairs at Cloud Eight Films since it was set up by Christian Colson in March 2009.

She previously worked for Colson at Celador Films for seven years, where she helped to develop and serve as associate producer on films including The Descent and Slumdog Millionaire, as well as producing Jon Harris’s The Descent: Part 2, and Harper’s debut The Scouting Book for Boys.

MacKinnon will remain attached to a number of Cloud Eight projects as associate producer.

“After many great years working with Christian, I am very excited to be gaining the freedom to develop and produce my own projects,” said MacKinnon.  “I’m sad to be leaving such a brilliant team and such good friends at Cloud Eight, but appreciate their support as I make the transition to the next stage of my career.”

Colson added: “Ivana has been a highly valued and much loved colleague these past nine years and I will miss her.  She is a gifted, creative producer with a great eye.  I look forward to our continued collaboration on those Cloud Eight projects to which she remains attached while wishing her success in her new independent ventures.”
