Red Granite has confirmed the pair will team up on the $85m-plus The Wolf Of Wall Street, their fifth collaboration after The Departed, Shutter Island, The Aviator and Gangs Of New York.

Re Granite owns rights to Jordan Belfort’s bestselling memoir and will fully finance. Principals Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland will produce with DiCaprio through his Appian Way, Scorsese and Emma Koskoff through their Sikelia Productions and Alexandra Milchan of EMJAG Productions.

Irwin Winkler and Georgia Kacandes will serve as executive producers and production is scheduled to start in New York in August. It is understood Red Granite International will hold off on pre-sales until more elements are in place. Every US studio and major distributor is circling domestic rights.

DiCaprio will star as Belfort, the so-called Wolf Of Wall Street and whose outrageous lifestyle, tumultuous personal life and drink and drug addiction contributed to his spectacular fall. Terence Winter adapted the screenplay.

“Everything about this film plays to Martin Scorsese’s genius and visionary storytelling,” Aziz said. “At its heart, The Wolf Of Wall Street is about the rise of new ‘modern’ gangsters in New York: Wall Street gangsters that redefined excess, greed and arrogance. We’re excited to see Mr Scorsese take the reins of this visceral, tumultuous ride.”

“All of us at Appian Way are thrilled to collaborate, once again, with Martin Scorsese,” Appian Way partner Jennifer Killoran said. “With Martin’s unique vision and our partnership with Red Granite Pictures and EMJAG, we are excited to bring this story to film.”
