The follow-up to Jeff Nichols’ Cannes Critics’ Week winner Take Shelter is being fully financed by Everest Entertainment, with the company’s Lisa Maria Falcone producing alongside Sarah Green and FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder.

FilmNation’s Glen Basner will serve as executive producer and will handle international sales, as he did on Take Shelter. CAA and FilmNation will handle US sales.

Mud is billed as a redemptive story about a fugitive who befriends a 14-year-old girl, to be played by Tye Sheridan. The youngster helps him evade the authorities as he tries to reunite with his lover.

“Jeff Nichols has written a beautiful story with rich characters learning valuable lessons through life-changing circumstances,” Falcone said. “With Jeff’s vision, this will be a work of art.”

“It’s thrilling to me that actors of this caliber are drawn to the material,” Green said. “It’s a testament to the strength and appeal of Mud.”

“Jeff wrote a visceral story full of compassion, innocence and memorable journeys,” FilmNation head of production Ryder said. “We are thrilled to partner once again with Jeff and add new talent to the FilmNation roster.”

Everest’s credits include 127 Hours and Win Win. FilmNation recently completed production on House At The End Of The Street starring Jennifer Lawrence and The Raven with John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe.
