Rob Minkoff is attached to direct and produce the 3D English language action adventure Chinese Odyssey.

Minkoff and Pietro Ventani will produce under their Los Angeles, Singapore and Beijing-based Tiger 62 Media label in partnership with the China Film Group and Beijing Galloping Horse Film & TV.

The film will primarily be shot in China and marks the first major feature with US elements developed with Chinese financing. This is the first of six film and television projects that Tiger 62 Media has lined up.

Chinese Odyssey is a supernatural high-seas adventure that pits our hero against an onslaught of deadly foes on the path to fulfilling his destiny,” Minkoff said. “It’s a story involving ancient mysteries, deadly sea-monsters, great characters, and larger-than-life adventures which all make for a fantastic cinematic experience.”

“We look forward to working with a talented film-maker such as Rob Minkoff and Pietro Ventani,” China Film Group president of production Zhao Haicheng said.

Galloping Horse chairman Li Ming added: “We are excited about working with this amazing group of partners on a film of great vision and scale.”

Minkoff co-directed The Lion King as well as Stuart Little and The Forbidden Kingdom.

CAA China negotiated the deal on behalf of Minkoff, Ventani and Galloping Horse Productions.
