Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson are set to star in Can A Song Save Your Life? which will be written and directed by John Carney (Once).

Nigel Sinclair and Guy East’s Exclusive Media will produce and finance the romance, as well as handling international sales. Alex Walton of Exclusive will introduce the project to buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market next week.

Johansson will play a woman who moves to New York City to pursue musical dreams with her boyfriend. When his career takes off without her, she meets a down-on-his luck record producer (Ruffalo) who spots her raw talent. Johansson herself has released two albums (one solo, one with Pete Yorn).

Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman will produce, while Judd Apatow will executive produce.

Exclusive Media’s Head of Production, Tobin Armbrust, will oversee production on the film, which will begin shooting in June 2012. Armbrust said: “This is a beautiful and soulful story which we are honored to help John bring to life.”

Writer/director John Carney will be working with Grammy-award winning songwriter, Gregg Alexander (New Radicals), on the music for the film.

Exclusive’s production slate also includes Ron Howard’s Rush and End of Watch starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
