Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free are producing with Relativity and Energy Entertainment.

Cooper previously directed, wrote and produced Crazy Heart, which earned Jeff Bridges his first leading actor Academy Award in 2010.

Production is expected to start later this year on the story, based on Brad Ingelsby’s book The Low Dweller about an ex-con who avenges the death of his brother.

“Scott Cooper drew raw emotion from the story and inspired amazing performances from his actors in Crazy Heart,” Relativity’s president of worldwide production Tucker Tooley said. “We are excited for him to shepherd this project.”
