Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and Samuel L Jackson are set to star in the story, which takes place in 2029 as a multinational conglomerate uses advanced technology to transform an injured police officer into a robotic law enforcer.

StudioCanal has acquired rights for 20 years and will distribute Robocop theatrically in 2013. It will also release on DVD, VoD and television, with certain limited exceptions.

MGM co-chairmen and CEOs Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum said StudioCanal was “the ideal partner”, while StudioCanal chairman and CEO Olivier Courson said he was extremely happy to be partnering with MGM.

Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing and Eric Carraro serves as executive producer.

The film is currently in pre-production and scheduled to open in summer 2013.
