The Freebie writer-director Katie Aselton will direct and star alongside Lake Bell and Kate Bosworth in the all-girl thriller Black Rock, which Submarine is representing here for worldwide sales.

Aselton is producing with Adele Romanski and the producers are launching a Kickstarter campaign to crowd-source a portion of funding.

The film follows three childhood friends who embark on a weekend getaway to an isolated island where they soon learn they are not alone.

Mark Duplass wrote the screenplay from a story by Aselton and the pair, who previously collaborated on The Puffy Chair, will serve as executive producers.

Aselton is also currently a regular on the hit FX comedy The League and will be seen in the upcoming comedies Our Idiot Brother and Jeff Who Lives At Home. The Freebie premiered in Sundance in 2010.

“I grew up watching classic suspense films and have long had the idea of making a girl-based thriller where the threat to the characters is very real, and the audience is left with the terrifying thought ‘this could happen to me,” Aselton said.

Aselton is represented by ICM and Untitled Entertainment. Duplass is represented by ICM. Bell is represented by UTA and the Burstein Company. Bosworth is represented by WME and One Talent Management.
