Commercials director Fredrik Bond will direct the untitled project from Matt Drake’s Black List screenplay originally titled The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman.

Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa of Bona Fide Productions will produce along with William Horberg. Mandate president Nathan Kahane and Dean Parisot will serve as executive producers and Lionsgate is handling international sales.

The film centres on a suburban youngster who spontaneously travels to Eastern Europe to find himself and braves the criminal underworld to be with the one he loves.

Efron recently completed filming on the Scott Hicks film The Lucky One for Warner Bros as well as New Year’s Eve, directed by Garry Marshall

Mandate’s svp of business affairs Dan Freedman negotiated the deals for the company.
