Filming is set to begin on Nov 6 in Pittsburgh on Groundswell Productions'comedy drama Smart People starring Dennis Quaid, Rachel Weisz and Thomas Haden Church.

Michael London's Groundswell isproducing the project along with Bill Block's QED International and GrosvenorPark. QED's Kim Fox is handling international sales.

Quaid stars as a curmudgeonly professor and widower who tries to reconnectwith his distanced children and college students after he falls in love with a formerstudent (Weisz) and receives a visit from his adopted brother (Hayden Church).

Commercials director Noam Murro makes his feature directorialdebut from a screenplay by Mark Poirier, a novelist who wrote Goats and Modern Ranch Living.

Michael Costigan and BridgetJohnson are serving as producers along with Bruna Papandrea from Groundswell.

Quaid recently co-starred in the comedy Yours Mine And Ours with Rene Russo and completed filming onthe thriller Vantage Point for director Pete Travis earlier this year.

Weisz is enjoying a grand year after winning the best supporting actressOscar for The Constant Gardener, and she stars opposite Hugh Jackman in The Fountain, which receives its North Americanpremiere here.

Haden Church will next be seen in Spider Man 3, which is scheduled to open next May andstars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

Groundswell is currently shooting its first feature TheMysteries Of Pittsburghin Pittsburgh starring Peter Sarsgaard, Jon Foster, Nick Nolte, Sienna Millerand Mena Suvari. Filming on Tom McCarthy's The Visitor is set to begin on Oct 2 in New York.
