Brie Larson hasjoined the cast of Walden Media and New Line Cinema's children's tale Hoot.

Based on CarlHiaasen's award-winning book, Hoot centres on a Montana boy who moves to Florida and unearths asinister threat to the local population of endangered owls.

Logan Lermanplays Roy Eberhardt, the young boy who uncovers the mystery. Larson, a15-year-old recording artist whose film credits include 13 Going On 30, will play Roy's friend Beatrice.

Wil Shriner isdirecting and Frank Marshall and Jimmy Buffett are serving as producers.Production is due to begin this summer.

Alex Schwartz,Doug Jones and Evan Turner are overseeing the project for Walden Media, andMark Kaufman and Michael Disco are overseeing for New Line.

Larson is represented byCindy Osbrink at the Osbrink Agency and Anne Woodward at Saffron Management.Attorney Leigh Brecheen at Bloom Diemer Rosenthal and LaViolette negotiated thedeal on her behalf, and Walden Media's Frank H Smith negotiated the deal forthe company.
