Relativity Media has acquired the rights to David Anthony Durham's fantasy novel Acacia: The War With The Mein.

Andrew Grant will adapt the first title of a planned trilogy in the vein of The Lord Of The Rings about children of an ousted king who return to save their land from an evil race.

Relativity principal and CEO Ryan Kavanaugh is producing with Michael De Luca. De Luca Productions' Zach Schiff-Abrams, who brought the project into Relativity Media, will serve as executive producer along with Relativity's Tucker Tooley.

'Acacia: The War With The Mein is highly original and entertaining and has great franchise potential,' Kavanaugh said. 'The book has already generated such a huge response across the world and we look forward to watching Andrew bring the words David first brought to the page, to the screen.'

Grant is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert-Lurie, Stiffelman, Cook, Johnson, Lande & Wolf. ICM represents Durham and handled the option agreement for the book.
