The section, a new competition selection that tracks the latest trends in Italian film, will open with Carlo! by Gianfranco Giagni and Fabio Ferzetti, a portrait of filmmaker/actor Carlo Verdone.

The films selected for Perspectives Italy will be competing for three awards to be decided by the jury: Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, and Best Short Film. Up to 14 features (including documentaries) and seven shorts will be selected, all will be world premieres.

The Perspectives Italy selection committee is made up of Massimo Galimberti (in charge of the Selection committee and coordinating Perspectives Italy with the other competitive sections), Cecilia Ermini, Annamaria Licciardello and Jacopo Mosca. The Perspectives Italy competitive line-up will feature up to fourteen feature films (at least five of which will be documentaries) and seven short films. Films must be world premieres in order to be considered for selection.
