Sally Hawkins, Jimi Mistry and Zoe Wanamaker have joined the cast of Gurinder Chadha’s It’s A Wonderful Afterlife. The comedy has already begun shooting and a 2010 release is expected.

They join Shabana Azmi, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Mark Addy.

It’s A Wonderful Afterlife, which follows an Indian mother obsessed with getting her daughter married off, will be produced and directed by the BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated Chadha, who has also written the screenplay with her longstanding writing partner and husband, Paul Mayeda Berges.

Chadha said: ‘What a huge treat to be working with such a great ensemble of actors. Nothing excites me more as a director than to take a group of actors from such different places and put them all in the same movie with very funny and quite moving consequences.’

The film is being co-produced by The Indian Film Company and Bend It Films in association with India based motion picture company, Studio 18. HanWay Films is handling worldwide sales and distribution.
