Screen Media Films is believed to have paid roughly $1m for US rights to Rebecca Miller’s ensemble drama The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee.

The distributor plans a theatrical release in October after it negotiated the deal with the film’s US representatives CAA.

The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee screened recently at the Edinburgh International Film Festival following its world premiere in Berlin last February and is scheduled to open in the UK through Icon on July 10.

Robin Wright Penn leads the cast as a woman who reflects on her former life after she moves into a retirement community with her ailing older husband.

The cast includes Keanu Reeves, Alan Arkin, Maria Bello, Winona Ryder, Julianne Moore, Monica Bellucci and Blake Lively. Stuart Ford’s IM Global handled international sales.

Screen Media will next release Death In Love starring Josh Lucas and Jaqueline Bisset on July 17. Previous releases include Loverboy, Adrift In Manhattan and Bickford Schemeckler’s Cool Ideas.
