Sony's local language production venture, Columbia Pictures Producciones Mexico, is commencing production on its second feature, the comedy Casi Divas (Road To Fame).

Issa Lopez who previously directed Efectos Secundarios and wrote the screenplay for the company's first production Ninas Mal (Charm School), will direct.

The story is based on an idea and story treatment by Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) executive vice president of creative advertising Ignacio Darnaude about four women who try to win a lead film role in a nationwide talent search.

Patricia Llaca, Julio Bracho, Maya Zapata, Ana Layevska, Diana Garcia, and Daniela Schmidt will star. Luz Maria Rojas is producing and principal photography is set to begin on Jun 11 in Mexico.

'After the hugely successful debut of our first feature, we are delighted to be back in production with another film so soon, and to be continuing our relationship with the very talented Issa Lopez, and another gifted group of Mexican actors,' Gareth Wigan, vice chairman of Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, said.

'We are bringing together the same elements that worked on our first feature: a great script from the brilliant writer-director Issa Lopez and a first-rate cast of actors,' Gabriel Ripstein, head of production at Columbia Pictures Producciones Mexico, said.

'Columbia Pictures Producciones Mexico is a great example of the template for successful international productions,' Deborah Schindler, president of international motion picture production, said. 'Gabriel's vision and local talent relationships coupled with Philip's marketing and distribution expertise bodes well for a potential second hit with Casi Divas.'

SPRI handles international distribution on all titles from Columbia Pictures Producciones Mexico.
